A Letter to a Pen Friend

B1

Dear Sophie,

Thank you so much for your last letter — it was wonderful to hear all about your school trip to the mountains! I'm really sorry that I didn't write back to you sooner, but the past few weeks have been incredibly busy for me. We had our end-of-term exams, and between studying every evening and attending extra classes on the weekends, I barely had any free time at all.

I'm happy to say that the exams are finally over, and I think they went reasonably well, especially the English exam, which I had been worried about for months. Now that I have some free time again, I want to tell you about something exciting: my family is planning to visit your country next summer for almost two weeks!

We haven't decided on the exact dates yet, but my parents are talking about late July or early August. My older brother will be coming too, although he says he's mainly interested in visiting football stadiums rather than museums, which is typical of him. I, on the other hand, would love to see some historical sites and maybe try the local food that you've told me so much about in your letters.

If it's possible, I would really love to meet you in person for the first time after writing to each other for almost two years. It would be amazing to finally put a face to all the stories you've shared with me. Could you recommend some places near your town that we should definitely visit? I'm especially interested in anything related to history or art, but I'm sure my brother would appreciate some sports-related suggestions as well.

Please write back soon and let me know if our visit might work with your own summer plans. I really hope we can arrange to see each other.

With love, Emma
