Why Do We Use Emojis?
A2
Today, many people use emojis every day. We send them in text messages, on social media, and in emails. Emojis help us show our feelings without using many words.
Sometimes, it is difficult to understand a message. For example, the sentence "That's great." can sound happy or angry. If you add a smiling emoji 😊, people know you are happy. Emojis help make messages friendlier and easier to understand.
The first emojis were created in Japan in the late 1990s. At first, there were only a few simple pictures. Today, there are more than 3,000 different emojis. People can choose faces, animals, food, sports, flags, and many other symbols.
Different countries sometimes use emojis in different ways. For example, the folded hands emoji 🙏 can mean "thank you," "please," or "praying," depending on the culture.
Although emojis are fun, we should not use too many. In school, at work, or in formal emails, it is usually better to use words. Emojis are a great way to make conversations more friendly, but they cannot replace real communication.
