The Great Barrier Reef

A2

The Great Barrier Reef is in the sea near Australia. It is the biggest coral reef in the world, and you can even see parts of it from space.

Thousands of different fish, turtles, and sharks live in the reef. The coral comes in many colours, like pink, orange, and blue. Every year, many tourists travel to Australia to swim and look at the colourful fish.

However, the reef has problems today. The sea is getting warmer, and this is bad for the coral. When the water is too warm, the coral loses its colour and turns white. Scientists call this 'coral bleaching'.

Many people are now working hard to protect the reef. They want to stop the water from getting warmer and help the coral stay healthy. They also ask tourists to be careful when they swim near the coral, so they do not break it.

The Great Barrier Reef is a beautiful and important place, and people all over the world want to save it for the future.
